FEAST 5 : TRUMPETS

~ THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS ~

The Return Of
OUR KING

The Spring Appointed Times or “FEASTs” point to JESUS’ Coming

Where as…

The Fall Appointed Times or “FEASTs” speak of JESUS’ Return!

Let’s Begin,

“Spring” Appointed Times

*      Passover
            JESUS’ Crucifixion
*      Unleavened Bread
            JESUS’ Burial
*      First Fruits
            JESUS’ Resurrection
*      Feast of Weeks “Pentecost”
The receiving of the HOLY SPIRIT

“Fall” Appointed Times

*      Feast of Trumpets
*      The Return of our KING JESUS

*      Yom Kippur “Day of Atonement”
*      The Redemption of ISRAEL & Judgment of the Nations

*      Feast of Tabernacles
*      The Establishment of JESUS’ Kingdom on “Earth

There is an interesting Lunar aspect to the Feast of Trumpets that we must understand.

*      Unleavened Bread (Abib/Nisan 15)
*      Full Moon
*      Feast of Tabernacles Tishri 15
*      Full Moon
*      Feast of Trumpets Tishri 1
*      New Moon

KEY: The Feast of Trumpets Begins with the sighting of the “new” moon.

Below is a FULL MOON

…And this is what a “new” moon looks like

…as you can imagine, this may be difficult to decipher on a cloudy day [before the advent of technology].

BIBLICAL FOUNDATION

*      Yom Teruah
                        Yom is Hebrew for “DAY”
                        Teruah is Hebrew for “Blasting”

*      Literally the “Day of Blasting”
                        As in the blasting of Trumpets/Shofar

Leviticus 23 : 23 - 24
[23] And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
[24] “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with a blasting [of shofa], a holy convocation.

*      #7677 Sabbathown
*      a rest or Sabbath
*      #2146 Zik’ron
*      a memorial
FROM
*      #2142 Zakar
*      “the idea of calling to memory”

*      #8643 Teru’ah
*      an alarm, blasting [of trumpets], a loud noise, shouting Joy, jubilee. A battle cry

Points to Remember about Yom Teruah

*      First [1] day of Seventh [7] Month

*      Blasting of Trumpets/Shofar

*      It’s a Memorial

*      Holy Convocation
*      A communal “dress rehearsal”/ gathering

* * * Most Importantly, it is a memorial of the BINDING OF ISAAC * * *

This is read every year during YOM TERUAH

The Genesis 22 account is a picture of GOD’s love for US.
A symbolic telling of GOD’s redemptive plan for mankind through YESHUA.

But for the HEBREWS it demonstrates GOD’s MERCY!

NO ISAAC means NO Nation of Israel – the end of the Hebrew Nation.

The Feast of Trumpets is also signified by the BLOWING OF THE SHOFAR

*      For it was by the RAM’s HORN that the “replacement” sacrifice was caught

*      The Blasting of the Shofar is used for
*      Warning
*      Ezekiel 33 : 2 & 3
*      Deliverance
*       Joshua 6 : Jericho
*      Judgment
*      Remembrance

Most Notably…

~ Jericho ~ Joshua 6

*      The Shofar PRECEDES
                                                the ARK of the Covenant – GOD’s Presence

Less Notably . . .

~ Mount Sinai Experience ~
*      Exodus 19 : 16
*      Exodus 19 : 19
*      Exodus 20 : 18

The Shofar is EQUATED with GOD’s Presence.

Here are a few more examples to ponder regarding The LORD and The Shofar and HIS Teruah

*      Zechariah  9:14
And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning:
 and the Lord GOD shall blast the shofar, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.

*      Psalm 89:15
Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: <teru`ah>

*      Psalm 47 : 5
GOD is gone up with a shout, <teru’ah> the LORD with the sound of a trumpet. <shofar>

Now pay close attention to this…

*      Blowing of the Shofar
*      On the Feast of Trumpets the Shofar is blown 1 0 0 times

*      The final blast is known as the
LAST TRUMP!

First we must understand that there are a few “idioms” associated with the Feast of Trumpets.

*      The Resurrection / Rapture
*      “Natsal”

*      The Wedding Ceremony
*      Kiddushin/Nesu'in

*      The Hidden Day
*      Yom Hakeseh

In Matthew 24, YESHUA is discussing HIS Return . . .

Matthew 24 : 31
And HE will send out HIS angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather HIS elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

*      In Messianic circles this is known as the
*      Gathering of Israel

*      For Christians this is known as
*      The Rapture

The Rapture / Natsal

*      Matthew 24 : 40 – 41

[40] Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left.

[41] Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.

The Wedding Ceremony

A Jewish Wedding is 7 days long, this coincides with the length of the “anti-christ’s” rule from Daniel 9:27

*      Begins a 7 year Wedding Period
            where the Bride and the Groom are united.
*      Hebraic Weddings are 7 days long
*      The Bride = The Church = Followers of JESUS
*      The Groom is JESUS

This is why many Messianic Jews and Christians believe we will not be around during the rule of the anti-christ.

Also noteworthy is . . .
*      The bridegroom departed, going back to his father's house to prepare the bridal chamber.
*      John 14 : 1 -3

*      The Father releases the Son to get his bride

*      The eagerly awaiting Bride is snatched away and returns with the Groom

The “Hidden Day”

Mark 13 : 32  &  Matthew 24 : 36

J E S U S says
*      “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the SON, but the FATHER ALONE

Remember that picture of the new moon . . ?

*      The Feast of Trumpets occurs on the first day of the Hebrew month, Tishri.
*      It would occur at the NEW MOON.
*      However, clouds could obscure the moon
*      Two witnesses were required to verify.
*      Watchfulness was a critical ingredient of this feast.

*      The rabbis later added a second day to this feast to make sure they didn't miss it.
*      This is the ONLY two day FEAST, but it is consider one long day.
*      Yoma Arikhta

As a result the Feast of Trumpets is also referred to as

The FEAST where no one knows “the day or the hour” it would begin

Key Themes to the Feast of Trumpets

*      Watchfulness
*      Preparedness

This theme is emphasized throughout the New Testament in connection with the Lord's coming

Here is what Paul has to say about it . . .

1 Thessalonians 4 : 16 - 18
For the LORD himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
[17 ] Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
[18 ] Therefore encourage one another with these words.

What happened to the day when we once encouraged one another about our KING’s return!

*      NOTE:
The Greek for “caught up” (harpazō, “to grab or seize suddenly, to snatch, take away”) gives a sense of being forcibly and suddenly lifted upward.

1 Corinthians 15 : 51 - 52
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
[52 ] in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the LAST trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

~Did you catch the refernce to Yom Teruah and the shofar ?

*      1 Thessalonians 5:1-6
[1] Now concerning the TIMES and the SEASONS, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you.
[2 ] For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

{ and this is where most Preachers stop, but let’s finish Paul’s thought}

[3 ] While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

[4 ] But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.
[5 ] For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.
[6 ] So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.

By honoring the LORD’s Appointed Times “Feasts” we can not be caught off guard!

We will be ready in joyful celebration!

Finally let’s take a look at this whole “Thief in the Night” concept

Thief in the Night

Revelation 3:1-3  “The Dead Church

[3] Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.

Revelation 16:15

(“Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”)

According to Rabbinical Circles, the HIGH PRIEST is known as the one who comes as a thief in the night !

*      High priest was also known as “a thief in the night”
*      The Temple Guards had night watch
*      The High Priest would come and make sure they weren’t sleeping on the “job”
*      If he found them sleeping, the High Priest would take some coals of the alter and light their garments on fire.
*      The temple guards would then run naked [as they threw off their garments] and screaming thru the temple courts.
*      Hence the High Priest was known as the one who would come as a thief in the night to those who were sleeping…

JESUS is our HIGH PRIEST

*      Hebrews 4 : 14

*      Hebrews 5

Saints let us continue to observe the appointed times of our LORD so that we too may not be caught sleeping !

Love Much.  Forgive Often.  Seek Earnestly.
