Feasts...Seasons...or Appointed Times?

In order to begin to understand the premise of The LORD's "Feasts", we need to look at Genesis.

It is imperative that we look at the Hebrew in order to get a proper perspective and understanding.

Genesis 1
14 And God said: 'Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let *them be for signs [owth], and for seasons [moed], and for days and years;

Strong's Concordance:
#226 owth       a signal or beacon - as warning, to get your attention
#4150 moed    an appointment or a fixed time

As a VERY important side note:
*THEM refers to:
BOTH LUNAR [moon] and SOLAR [sun]
The Hebrew Calendar is on a solar [years] and lunar [months] cycle
Gregorian and Julian calendars are SOLELY solar

The Hebraic Day begins at SUNDOWN [not at Sunrise as we perceive it as westerners].

The reasoning is found in Genesis -
  • Notice in Genesis it says "When GOD created...there was "evening" and "morning" one day.
  • The Hebraic week begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday - this concept will play a crucial role in our understanding of JESUS' death, burial, and resurrection.

Now let's see where this fits in with Leviticus 23...

In Leviticus 23, THE LORD begins a very detailed explanation of HIS Appointed Times.
  • PAY ATTENTION:  These are NOT Jewish Feasts as we have commonly/carelessly come to know them.
  • These are THE LORD's [YHVH] Appointed Times!
  • So WHY is THE LORD revealing HIS Appointed times to Us?

Leviticus 23
1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them: The appointed times [moed] of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations [4744], even these are My appointed times [moed].

Strong's Concordance:
#4744  miqra’ a calling out as in an assembly OR a rehearsal
~the concept is a "dress rehearsal" as in a wedding rehearsal~

Whose “appointed times” are these to be?   The LORD's [YHVH]

Let me summarize:
  1. The Hebrew here denotes the LORD's "fixed" or "appointed" times.
  2. This is for ALL followers of the LORD - not solely Jews
  3. We are called to "celebrate" and PROCLAIM these special / "divine" times.

I find it fascinating that Messianic Hebrews believe that GOD's eternal plan of salvation is revealed through the NATURE and TIMING of the 7 Annual "Feasts" of the LORD.

As we explore these seven "Feasts", my hope is that you will see how JESUS divinely fulfills each one of them!

Remember, JESUS is the Divine Fulfillment of Scripture!
