FEAST 1 : PASSOVER *Fulfilled*

In the Spirit of operating under the premise that JESUS is the Divine Fulfillment of Scripture, let's take a look at how precisely HE is revealed in the PASSOVER.

Significance:
  • Points to JESUS' crucifixion

Where did PASSOVER originate?

Exodus 12 : 2 - 6

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,
[2] “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you.
[3] Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household.
[4] And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb.
[5] Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats,
[6] and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.

The Lamb

         Lamb - a year old - PRE-selected - Personal
A Son ~ the Hebrew here is “ben” which literally means “son”
No bones shall be broken [PAY ATTENTION - JESUS ALERT]

 Exodus 12 : 46
[46 ] It shall be eaten in one house; you shall not take any of the flesh outside the house, and you shall NOT break any of its bones.

Psalm 34 : 20
                  He keeps all his bones;
not one of them is broken.
  • Notice they selected the Lamb on the 10th, and it lived within the household for 4 days!  IT became a part of the family...it became a PERSONAL attachment - a Personal/Intimate symbol of Salvation.
Let's continue...

The BLOOD

Exodus 12 : 7 , 13 , 22

[7] “Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.
[13] The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over [pesach] you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.

Stong's Concordance:
H6452 / 6453   Pay'sach   to pass-over, to skip over

Hence the Term "Passover" - also see verse 11
...The Cross FORETOLD ? ? ?

[22] Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. None of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning.

Why do Jews still honor this evident?

The Simple answer is that the WORD of GOD instructs them to:

Exodus 12 : 14
[14] “This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast.

Leviticus 23 : 4 - 5

[4] 'These are the appointed times of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at the times appointed for them.
[5] 'In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight is the LORD'S PASSOVER.
  • For Jews today, the Passover signifies their deliverance by GOD from slavery and bondage into freedom.

Let's fast forward now to the times when JESUS walked the earth...

~ PASSOVER DURING TEMPLE TIMES ~

The Passover Lamb could only be sacrificed at the Temple in Jerusalem
Jerusalem at the time would swell to about 2.5 million people
         Approximately 250,000 lambs were slain
[10 people to a lamb – Bethlehem lambs]

It is interesting to note that BOTH King David and JESUS were from Bethlehem.

Bethlehem in Hebrew means “HOUSE of BREAD”

JESUS was born in a “stable” – which is where all Lambs are typically born.

The Inspection of the Lambs started on the 10th of the Month in preparation for Passover on the 14th

Our FATHER paid very close attention to details – this was going to be the beginning of a series of VERY special events ! ! !  HIS EVENTS ! ! !

PASSOVER MEAL

  • Commonly known today as the Seder meal
    • Seder means order, because the meal is eaten in a particular “order”
  • The ENTIRE meal revolved around the Passover Lamb; which was enjoyed last.  So that they may relish/savor the final taste of “freedom”
  • Wine was served during the meal.
Sacrificial Schedule

         The Third Hour [9:00am]
First Lamb is sacrificed in the Temple

         The Nineth Hour [3:00pm]
Time of the FINAL evening sacrifice
        Where the High Priest Declares

I T   IS   F I N I S H E D ! ! !
JESUS ~The PASSOVER Lamb~

At the outset of JESUS’ public ministry John makes this BOLD declaration:
John 1:29
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

~Picture what is going on in the Temple, and now picture what JESUS is going through simultaneously ~

The Lamb/JESUS enters Jerusalem

John 12:12-13
On the next day, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, a great crowd who had come to the Feast took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him. And they cried, Hosanna! "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The King of Israel

The same day the Passover Lambs are being brought to Temple so is JESUS!

[As a side note for further study, the Passover Psalms that the people would be singing are PSALMS 113 - 118 ~Please see study on the Name of JESUS]

The Lamb/JESUS is inspected

Luke 23 : 13 - 15
[13] Pilate then called together the chief priests and   the rulers and the people,
[14] and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him.
[15] Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him.
. . . and found without blemish
Why did the writers of the GOSPELS record the “hours” ? ? ?
  • Hint : Remember the Temple schedule we discussed above

The Lamb/JESUS is Sacrificed

  • The THIRD Hour
Mark 15:25
And it was the third hour when they crucified him.

This is the time of the morning sacrifice !

  • The NINTH Hour
Mark 15 : 33 – 34 ; 37
[33] And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
[34 ] And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
[37] And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.

         Additional references may be found in Matthew 27 : 45 – 46 ; 50

Verse 34:  JESUS is “quoting” Psalm 22 [I implore you to read it]

The Bones of the Passover Lamb are NOT to be broken [Exodus 12:46]
      John 19 : 32 -33
[32] So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him.
[33] But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
JESUS willingly gives up HIS Spirit…

John 19 : 30
[30] When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up HIS Spirit.

Remember in the TEMPLE it is the precise time of the final / evening sacrifice where the High Priest is declaring simultaneously
“IT is Finished”
JESUS is the Divine Fulfillment of PASSOVER as foretold and modeled HUNDREDS of years prior ! ! !

The purpose of the celebration for hundreds of years prior was to get HIS people ready for their MESSIAH!

The FATHER didn't want to catch them off guard - they should have recognized the "signs" of what JESUS said and did !

NOW WATCH THIS !

~The Destruction of the Temple happened in 70 A.D.

  • No TEMPLE means there can no longer be any SACRIFICES
  • This presents a BIG problem…so what do “Jews” do today?
They still celebrate the Feast with a Seder meal but...
~ The AFIKOMEN ~

  • This is Matzah or Unleavened Bread which replaces the Passover Lamb until the Third Temple can be rebuilt in Jerusalem.
  • Afikomen is Greek for “THAT WHICH IS COMING”
W O W  ! ! !

Hopefully you have been blessed by this teaching, and you can now begin to see how JESUS fulfilled the Passover and its significance more clearly!

Remember JESUS is the Divine Fulfillment of Scripture!

Love Much…Forgive Often…Seek Earnestly!
