What's In The Name?

Or More Aptly…

WHAT’S IN HIS NAME?

This post is an attempt to RESTORE reverence to the meaning behind the name of our Saviour, YESHUA HA'MASHIACH.

Have you ever looked up the name JESUS in a concordance?
·         [Strong's #2424]

Here is what you will find: there is no "real" meaning to the word UNLESS you look at the HEBREW root.

Looking at the Hebrew root [#3091], we get the name Yehoshua; which in english is Joshua.

[Which stands to reason why Joshua was the one who got to bring the Israelites into the "Promised" Land - If you can "see" Joshua as a picture of JESUS.  Perhaps another lesson for another time]

In the Hebrew Bible, Yeshua has been used as a shortened form of Yehoshua.

Simply put, JESUS is a transLITERATION rather than a transLATION.

Transliterations are a letter for letter and sound for sound conversion from one language to another whereas translations seek to preserve the meaning of the translated word.

Why is this important?

The original Hebrew Name Yahshua/Yeshua has a specific meaning tied to HIS purpose, the Greek transliteration has no meaning what so ever!

Here comes the cool part....Yehoshua literally means "YHWH is Salvation"!

Now check out Psalm 118 verse 21 [a PASSOVER hymn]:

I will give thanks unto Thee, for Thou hast answered me, and art become my salvation [Literally salvation here is Yeshua]

Now that's AWESOME!

YOU are not FORGOTTEN

ISAIAH 49:14-16

14 But Zion said: 'The LORD hath forsaken me, and the Lord hath forgotten me.'

{Zion is the city of David, where its inhabitants awaited their Redeemer/Messiah}

15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb?  Yea, these may forget, yet will not I forget thee.

{We, as people, tend to forget rather quickly...as time passes}

Now pay careful attention to this next verse
[again Isaiah is from the Hebrew Scriptures...a.k.a The Old Testament].
This is the LORD speaking:

16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of MY hands; thy walls are continually before ME.

The Hebrew word for "graven" literally means to CUT IN !  WOW !

The LORD has not forgotten you...HE has a continual reminder...our mediator JESUS!

WE [believers, those awaiting HIS return] are cut into HIS palms, and our "safety" is continually on HIS mind.

Just as Zion awaited their Messiah, so we too now await the return of our KING!

May HIS love for you compel you to seek HIM more intimately today!

~Blessings be upon you!
